Partners and people

The strength of Young Lives lies in our collaborative, international structure which is designed to maximise the links between research and policy influencing and to facilitate a multidimensional approach to child poverty.

Our multidisciplinary team in Ethiopia consists of staff drawn from government and international organisations, Alula Pankhurst joined Young Lives as its Country Director in 2009. A team based within the Ethiopian Development Research Institute (EDRI) led by Tassew Woldehanna, Principal Investigator, is responsible for data gathering, data management and quantitative research, while our qualitative research is led by an independent researcher, Yisak Tafere. Workneh Abebe, Lead Education Researcher, is also one of our independent researchers. Our staff based in Save the Children carries out engagement and communications work.

At national level we work closely with relevant stakeholders at the Ministry of Education (MoE), the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (MoLSA), the Ministry of Health (MOH), the Ministry of Women Children and Youth Affairs (MoWCYA) and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MoFED) as well as interested donors and NGOs.

At regional level we work closely with sector bureaux, especially those concerned with education, health and women, children and youth affairs, plus the bureau for finance and economic development, and the bureau for labour and social affairs.
